T.U.A. (Automated Overall) is the second work created during the residency at Spazio Arte Contemporanea. It imagines a hypothetical work outfit made from discarded fabrics and covered with photographic images printed using the cyanotype process.

These images, taken inside the factory where the fabric is produced, function as windows onto the skin, revealing the mechanical interior of an automated human body. Conceived as a wearable device, the work evokes a science-fiction and posthuman dimension in which the worker’s body hybridizes with the machine it operates and collaborates with, sharing organs, fluids, infrastructures, and waste.

On the occasion of ArteFiera 2025, the work was activated using a portable recorder and a pair of headphones. The artist stood motionless at the entrance of the booth, listening at amplified volume to the sounds captured from the surrounding environment: background noise, the voices of passersby, and the comments of those who mistook the figure for an AI-animated mannequin.

In the factory from which the fabric originates, workers wear headphones to protect themselves from the deafening noise of the machines weaving the cotton. What, instead, constitutes the soundscape that accompanies labor within the art world?
