Il convegno degli alberi (The assembly of trees) is a site-specific intervention developed during the residency Thinking with the Body, held in September 2023 at Fondazione Lac o Le Mon.
The work consists of two blue swings, crafted from wood found on site and suspended with natural fiber ropes. They stand on either side of the path that leads from the road, through the garden, to the entrance of the house. Connected to the myth of Dioniso, the swings evoke ideas of reversal and ecstasy. They recall the Tarot’s Hanged Man, a figure suspended between worlds, while functioning both as a disinterested game and as a performative device. Their presence introduces the possibility of pause and exchange within a space otherwise meant simply for passage.
The two swings trace parallel trajectories that frame the entrance to Lac o Le Mon from opposite perspectives: one oriented inward, the other outward. In doing so, they foreground the movements of those who enter and leave; the bodies that cross the threshold, dwell within it, and depart.
Drawing on Spinoza’s notion of convenience, literally “coming together”, the swings can be understood as devices for gathering not only among people, but also between human and vegetal bodies. When someone sits on a swing, the human body becomes momentarily entwined with the tree; both participate in the same motion, entering a shared state of altered perception. The oscillation becomes a form of transport, of being carried, where thought unfolds through the body and in relation with the living world.
Il convegno degli alberi è l’intervento frutto della residenza Pensare con il corpo, svoltasi presso la fondazione lac o le mon (San Cesario di Lecce) a settembre 2023. Due altalene blu, realizzate con il legno disponibile presso la fondazione e corde di fibra naturale, sono situate ai lati del viale che dalla strada conduce attraverso il giardino, fino all’ingresso della casa.
Le altalene, legate al mito di Dioniso, sono simbolo del capovolgimento e dell’ebrezza, sono la carta dell’Appeso nei Tarocchi, un gioco disinteressato e un mezzo performativo. La loro presenza crea in potenza un nuovo punto di sosta e scambio in uno spazio della fondazione che sarebbe altrimenti adibito solo al passaggio. Le due altalene tracciano delle traiettorie parallele che intersecano l’ingresso di lac o le mon con sguardi opposti, uno verso l’interno e uno verso l’esterno, evidenziando i moti di chi entra e chi esce dalla fondazione, dei corpi che la attraversano, la abitano e la lasciano
Riprendendo la nozione spinoziana di convenienza, venire-con, immaginiamo le altalene come dispositivi non solo per un convegno tra le persone, ma anche per un convegno tra corpi umani e corpi vegetali. Infatti, sull’altalena il corpo umano diviene tutt’uno con l’albero e i due compartecipano al movimento, in uno stato di alterazione dei sensi che è trasporto
