Sinecittà is a photographic series that explores the disintegration of physical reality and the opening to new scenarios, made possible by technology and necessitated by the circumstances of our contemporary world.
The impression is that of being on a movie set: much like in Amarcord by Federico Fellini, the city is nothing more than a reproduction. The solitary subjects, captured on film, are inserted into entirely reconstructed 3D backdrops. The new frontiers of photography, increasingly blending with digital graphic techniques, engage in dialogue with the origin of the medium.
Sinecittà is an imaginary reportage of an intangible city, a series that highlights the constant hybridity between the photographer’s eye and that of the software. Looking at these images, it’s worth asking whether, behind the walls of pixels, there is still a world left to photograph.
